Microsoft-New York State Class Action Settlement

New York State has reached a settlement with Microsoft, which may entitle Cornell to claim and receive compensation for overcharged software license fees from 1994-2004.

Activity:
- CU Software, in collaboration with the University Counsel's Office and the Cornell ITMC Software Acquisition Committee, is researching the viability of centrally making a claim for volume licensing purchased through Cornell's Microsoft Select license agreement.

- CU Software has been informed by the Microsoft Settlement Claims Administrator that Cornell may also be entitled to make a claim for Microsoft software licenses that were "indirectly acquired" through the purchase of computer systems. We are currently researching purchase records and determining if proper documentation can be obtained.

- Once all data has been assembled, the information will be communicated to the University Counsel's Office and the Software Acquisition Committee so they may make a recommendation as to how to proceed (or not) with making a centralized claim, as well as how to distribute funds approved under the claim.

- Claim Deadline: October 18th, 2006

- March 5, 2007 -- Request for claim status from the Claims Administrator.  Status update due by March 9th.

- July 6, 2007 -- Due to the extended deadline for claim submission (January 2007), processing of claims is delayed and no current ETA for a decision on Cornell's claim.

Diskeeper

In past years, Cornell has licensed Diskeeper; however, we have not pursued a license renewal program since version 6...Diskeeper is now at version 10 and interest in the new version is growing.

Activity:- New Diskeeper licensing has been procured and a campus announcement regarding available is due by July 15th.

Adobe Connect (Formerly Breeze)
