S-Plus Unzipping and Installation Instructions

BEFORE YOU BEGIN……

Ensure that you have downloaded all the necessary files for the software you ordered.

Ensure that you have our unzip utility that will Unzip all .zip files. We suggest using TurboZip.

Ensure that you have available the Email Confirmation you received after placing your order for the software. This may contain your license key and specific instructions, which will be helpful during the installation.

It is recommended that you close all other applications prior to starting the installation.

UNZIPPING FILES

The software you have downloaded is in compressed format (zipped), and must be uncompressed (unzipped) before installing.

1. Locate and click on splus7_win.zip on your desktop. Double clicking will initiate the unzipping process.

2. The zip file initiates the decompression process and you can see all the files in the TurboZip Express window.

3. The next step is to EXTRACT the files to your desktop, using the default naming conventions that have been built into the .zip files.

4. Once unzipped and extracted, you will find a new folder on your desktop named “splus7_win_temp.”

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

1. Inside the splus7_win_temp folder, double click on the “setup” file to launch the setup wizard for Splus 7.0. Installation will begin.

2. The Installer window shown below will pop up. Click Install. Click Next.

3. Complete the User Name, and ALWAYS use Cornell University as the Organization. Enter the Serial Number from the Order Confirmation email you received at the time you placed your order. Click next.

4. Following the prompts, read the EULA and click Yes to agree to the terms of the license agreement. Click Next.

5. Click Custom for the Installation Type. Click Next.

6. Accept the default installation directory on the Folder Selection screen. Click Next.

7. Review the location of the S_PROJ folder where all your SPlus documents will be stored, leave as default or change to an easily locateable directory on your hard drive. Click Next.

8. Accept the default installation directory on the Folder Selection screen and choose whether you want this installation to be available only to you or to anyone who uses the computer. Click Next.

9. Choose the configuation you prefer to have available upon starting the program.

10. Confirm the installation options you have selected are correct. Click Finish.

11. The window below will appear, indicating the progress of the installation by the green bar.

12. When the Setup Wizard has completed the installation, you will be required to authorize the software. The window below will open. Click Next.

13. Enter the License Authorization Code (LAC) you were provided in the order confirmation email. Click Next.

14. A final window will open, indicating that you have completed the software's authorization procedure, and it is now ready to be used.

ALTERNATIVE AUTHORIZATION PROCESS

Some may experience trouble with the automated procedure. If so, please follow the instructions below:

1. Go to http://keys.insightful.com

2. Click on the link that says "I have a License Authorization Code"

3. Enter your License Authorization Code and click the Login button

4. Click the "Generate Licenses" button

5. Select the product you want to host by clicking in each small box next to the product definitions (a small green check mark will appear).

6. Click the "Generate" button

7. Review your information and click "Confirm"

8. Click the "Save to File" button and save the file to your computer. This file should be saved to SHOME\adm\lic\keys where "SHOME" is the directory where S-PLUS is installed. On Windows, by default, this is C:\Program Files\Insightful\splus70\adm\lic\keys.
